About Squire Frederick

Frederick Taylor - aka Squire Frederick - is the official Town Crier of Annapolis, Md., and of Baltimore County, Md.

Mayor Ellen Moyer announced Squire Frederick's initial appointment as the Annapolis Town Crier by letter on May 24, 2006. She wrote: "As crier, you will especially be called on over the next three years to announce to one and all the ensuing celebration of Annapolis Charter 300, commemorating our City's rich history in the struggles for liberty and civil rights for all citizens." After the end of his initial two-year appointment as the Annapolis Town Crier in Dec. 31, 2008, Squire Frederick was given an indefinite appointment by Mayor Moyer.

On Jan. 22, 2009, Baltimore County Executive James T. Smith Jr. announced Squire Frederick's appointment as the Offcial Town Crier of Baltimore County, Md., at a ceremony kicking off the county's celebration of its 350th anniversary. Did You Know?

Squire Frederick is one of 37 members of the American Guild of Town Criers. The Guild was "created as a way for modern day town criers to meet and compete to show that this ancient and honorable profession still exists." All members of the Guild are duly appointed.
