Here are some events where Squire Frederick appeared between 2008 and 2011. He’s made numerous appearances since 2011 that are not documented here (yet?).

2011

Catonsville named Squire Frederick, a hometown resident, its official town crier for life during its 2011 Fourth of July festivities. The new Town Crier led the Catonsville parade down Frederick Road and received official commendation prior to the fireworks presentation that evening. Sykesville holds its Apple Butter Market on the last Sunday of each month from June through October. In his role as Sykesville’s Official Town Crier, Squire Frederick appeared at the first Apple Butter Market of 2011 on June 26.

 

Squire Frederick appeared at the Annapolis Book Festival on April 9, 2011. Guests included Michele Norris, co-host of NPR’s All Things Considered, and Gwen Ifil, senior correspondent for the PBS NewsHour. The Town Crier also enjoyed some face-painting fun with the Book Festival’s young participants at the Key School.

 

The Catonsville July 4th Celebration Committee held a “Not-Too-Spontaneous Flash Mob” at Matthews 1600 restaurant to launch its 2011 fundraising season. Squire Frederick attended along with Catonsville’s own colonial and parade fixture, Patriot Pete.

2010

Squire Frederick visited the Rolling Hills Women’s Club of Catonsville on Dec. 13, 2010.

 

Squire Frederick appeared at the Sykesville Tree Lighting ceremony on Dec. 4, 2010.

 

Squire Frederick made a return trip to the Sykesville Fall Fest in 2010, which was held on Saturday, Oct. 9, 2010.

 

Once again, Squire Frederick participated in the kick-off event for Baltimore Beer Week. This year’s event was held at the Baltimore Museum of Industry on Oct. 7. Joining Squire Frederick was celebrity guest Duff Goldman of Charm City Cakes. They appeared together in a photo on TMZ.com

Squire Frederick participated in the 2010 Annapolis Memorial Day Parade, where he interacted with Sen. John Astle, former Gov. Bob Ehrlich and his family, local Boy Scout troops, and junior Miss Marylands.

 

Squire Frederick participated in an artist reception for the Youth Art Gallery at the BWI Observation Deck on May 8, 2010. Autumn Owens was the featured artist. Also in attendance were: Ned Carey, deputy executive director Maryland Aviation Administration; Terry Thompson, Baltimore artist; and other young artists Hannah Brown, Lindsay Guchhail, Kathrine Hope Driver, and Laureen Burnette.

 

2009

In his role as the Baltimore County Town Crier, Squire Frederick attended the county’s 350th Anniversary Gala on Dec. 3, 2009, at Hampton National Historic Site. See photos of Squire Frederick with a variety of attendees, including county council members past and present, a member of Congress, a local delegate, and other non-political attendees who joined in the fun.

 

For the second consecutive year, but his first as the county’s official Town Crier, Squire Frederick participated in the Baltimore County Christmas Tree Lighting, held Dec. 1, 2009 in Towson, Maryland.

 

Squire Frederick attended the “Slaughter Across The Water” tug of war between Annapolis and Eastport. Eastport improved its record in the annual competition to 8-2-1 with a victory over Annapolis which is nice and all, but does Eastport have its very own town crier?

 

Squire Frederick helped Baltimore County Executive Jim Smith commemorate the County’s 350th anniversary year with an education event at Chesapeake High School on Oct. 15. The school’s virtual lab provided the backdrop for October’s anniversary theme – The Past, Present, and Future of Education in Baltimore County. Attending the commemoration were all county university and college presidents as well as all living superintendents of the Baltimore County Public Schools.

 

Squire Frederick participated in the Sykesville Fall Festival on Oct. 10. Said Ivy Wells, Sykesville’s events coordinator, in a Carroll County Times article: “He’s very animated and has great charisma.”

 

Squire Frederick helped kick off Baltimore Beer Week on Oct. 8 abord the USS Constellation with the likes of Orioles legend Boog Powell, Beer Week founder Joe Gould, the Baltimore Sun’s Rob Kasper, and the owners and distributors of Flying Dog Ale, among others.

 

Squire Frederick has recently crossed paths in Annapolis with scholars, athletes, and scholar-athletes. These include members of the Air Force Academy’s women’s rugby team; federal government interns from DHHS and the Library of Congress; students from the Institute of Global Chinese Affairs at the University of Maryland; and Brian Blick, safety for the U.S.Naval Academy football team.

Squire Frederick Summer Sightings: With Annapolis Mayor Ellen Moyer at the Aug. 15 re-opening of the Market House at City Dock, with Miguel Marquez, ABC News London bureau correspondent, and with Iraqi natives Faisal Sidiq and his family.

“Several other characters will be appearing in the parade for the first time. The Lone Ranger and his horse, Silver, have been added to the lineup.So has Fred Taylor, a resident of East Elpin Drive in Catonsville who is the official town crier of Annapolis. Taylor has assumed the role of official town crier for Baltimore County for events celebrating the county’s 350th anniversary.

Wearing a red coat with a double cape trimmed in the other colors of the Maryland state flag, he said he’ll be introducing County Executive Jim Smith and ‘giving a little, ‘Happy anniversary to the United States, happy birthday to Baltimore County, make way for County Executive Jim Smith.’ and schmoozing and putting along the way.'”

Squire Frederick offered the opening cry/call to order at Baltimore County’s “Salute to Public Saftey” on June 10. The event, which honored the County’s long and honorable heritage of public safety, featured a procession and displays of antique equipment and memorabilia from local emergency response and law enforcement agencies. Officer Harold Williams offered a stirring rendition of the National Anthem to kick things off.

 

Squire Frederick had a busy May with the GLAMER (Group Leaders of America) Conference at the Calvert House on State Circle on May 7, Colby Wicker’s bachelorette party on May 9, the William Paca Garden plant sale on May 9, and a tour with the  Arizona State University Capital Scholars Program on May 29.

 

Squire Frederick attended the 2009 Towsontown Spring Festival, his first as the Official Town Crier of Baltimore County, on the first weekend of May. The event, sponsored by the Towson Chamber of Commerce, featured a flyover of Air Force C130s at the opening festivities, where Squire Frederick cried a proclamation.

 

The weekend of April 17-19 found Squire Frederick at The Dynamics’ Sport Gala at the Hilton Hotel at Camden Yards and the 2009 Annapolis Book Festival at the Key School, where he met PBS’s Jim Lehrer, Kathy Lee Gifford, and some future town criers.

 

Squire Frederick appeared at the Northeast Regional Honors College Conference at Loew’s hotel in Annapolis and the Maryland Day Birthday Celebration on the weekend of March 28 & 29.

 

In his role as Baltimore County Town Crier, Squire Frederick participated in a National Surveyors Week event on March 13 that highlighted how the County’s boundaries have changed since 1659.

 

Squire Frederick appeared at the Maryland House of Delegates’ Speaker’s Society dinner on Wednesday, Feb. 11. Event photos include shots with former Speaker “Cas” Taylor (1994-2003) and the Park School acapella group Eight Notes.

 

Squire Frederick visited Trinity School in Ilchester, Maryland on Jan. 26 to kick off Catholic Schools Week. The Squire rang his bell and read a proclamation following morning Mass and then spoke to Mrs. Vicchio’s kindergarten class.

2008

Squire Frederick participated in the Baltimore County Christmas Tree Lighting on Monday, Dec. 1, 2008.

 

Squire Frederick visited St. Mark’s Elementary School in Catonsville in early November to read to students. The fourth-graders had little difficulty convincing the Squire to ring his bell and give a traditional cry.

 

The Annapolis & Anne Arundel County Conference and Visitor’s Bureau named Squire Frederick one of its Most Valuable Partners (MVPs) for bringing the 2008 North American Town Crier Championship to Annapolis in May.

 

Squire Frederick led Maryland’s “Parade of Gold” through the streets of Towson on Oct. 4, 2008, as an estimated crowd of 5,000-10,000 people celebrated the accomplishments of the state’s Olympic athletes including Michael Phelps, Katie Hoff, and Jessica Long. Squire Frederick stopped for photos with (clockwise from top left) the Stembridge Colts Cheerleaders, Olympic rower Jamie Schroeder, members of the North Baltimore Aquatic Club, and local residents.
